Biography
Sophie Muller was born London but spent her early years growing up off the northwest coast of England. When leaving secondary education, she returned to the bustle of London and attended St. Martin's School of Art, attaining a Foundation Diploma in Art. She subsequently joined St. Martin's degree course in Graphic Design, concentrating on producing two short films, "Unquiet Days" and "Dancing."

Following her B.A., Sophie went to the Royal College of Art to study for a master's degree in Film and Television, where she made "Interlude" and "In Excelsis Deo (In Adoration of God)." The latter, her graduation piece, toured numerous festivals and won the J. Walter Thompson prize for creativity.

Her first taste of professional film came working as a third assistant on the horror/thriller "Company of Wolves." Sophie then went on to work for International Film and Video, honing her editing, producing, and directing skills. However, Sophie wished to become a director in her own right and through a chance meeting with a childhood friend was introduced to John Stewart and Billy Poveda of Oil Factory.

Sophie quickly became adept at directing music videos, channeling her skills into early projects such as the Eurythmics' "I Need A Man." Since then, Sophie has not looked back, winning a Grammy for Annie Lennox's "Diva" longform and an MTV award for "Why," and the Brit Award and Music Week Award for Shakespear's Sister's "Stay."

Her only ambition is to continue directing to her own high standards and to never grow bored.

Sophie Has directed seven No Doubt videos., the first being Don't Speak. Obviously, it was a special video and the band and Sophie have always enjoyed working together. When No Doubt won the best group video at the 1997 MTV Music Awards Gwen thanked her by saying, "I'd like to to say that Sophie Muller is a genuis."

Recently she has worked with PJ Harvey on "A Place Called Home" and "Good Fortune". She also directed English band Doves video for "Catch the Sun". Don't think for a minute that she'll hesitate to work with No Doubt again as it says on the back of "Live in the Tragic Kingdom",

"One of the reasons I wanted to work with No Doubt in the first place, is that I saw them play live. It seems only fair that the rest of the world be allowed the same honour. Plus it was really good fun..."
