Overview:

Over the years Gwen has gone through different looks. From platinum blonde to pink and everything in between the one constant is that she has tried to be different from everybody else. The true meaning of copying Gwen's style is to not really copy her at all. She started her look almost out of necessaity. When she showed up at early No Doubt shows the girls in the audience saw her as a tag-along girlfriend and wondered why she was on stage. When she created her image she eventually won over these fans.

As for the bindi, she does not Gwen does not wear it very otfen if at all. She aquired her first bindi at a party that she went to with Tony. There were a number of Indian women at the party all with bindi's; she told The Face, "I was just into anything that sparkles. I just started wearing it and couldn't stop." Perhaps everybody wearing one helped to control the urge to wear one.

In short, the following some helpful hints on creating a look like Gwen. But be certain to incorporate your own sense of style. Gwen told Interview magazine in 1996, "Fashion is an extension of personality, and I've always been obseesed. I always want to have something different than everybody else."

Gwen with her pink hair

Gwennabe Basics:
Hair and make-up:

Gwen has bleached her hair so many times that you may never see her with her natural brown/dirty blonde look again. She wears it down, up in little knobs, she has had it in braids, short and sweet, long and curly, and shoulder length. Gwen shapes her eyebrows in a "Dietrich arch". At the '98 MTV Music Awards she colored it with Urban Decay's UD-40 in "Radium" which made her hair light blue. She has also put pink streaks in from time to time. In short Gwen has colored her hair in almost all the colors under the rainbow!

Gwen uses nail polish brands like Hard Candy, and "Gash" is a color of the lipstick she mainly wears from the brand called "Urban Decay". She uses other nail polish brands like Delux Beauty polishes, and in that color she wears a color called "Matador". Another company is Tony & Tina Nail paint, the color is called "Ease".

Gwen also wears bindi's or pottu (jewel on her forehead), she also has had henna done on her hands (it's really called mendhi). These items have been used by quite a few other female artists lately like Shania Twain, Monica and Madonna.

Jewelery:

Gwen sometimes wears a necklace with the letter G, or it'll say "G loves G." Meaning Gwen loves Gavin. She will also sometimes wear a silver arm band. Or her wrist bands that say "No" and "Doubt". She has a necklace that says "Gwen". Gwen also sometimes wears a chain on her side on her pants, and she sometimes wears beaded bracelets. She has 2 other bracelets with the words "No" and "Doubt", they are buckle bracelets. She has both her ears pierced, and she sometimes wears studs. Gwen used to have her nose pierced but took the ring out and it closed up(If you do that it'll close up within a few days).

Clothing Style:

Gwen's mom always sewed clothes for her and her sister Jill. Then she just started getting into it and felt desperate to have her own clothes. Playing shows every night she had you find something that worked, like, okay "I need baggy pants that I can move in". Gwen and Debra Viereck have been creating outfits that Gwen wears on stage for the past couple years. The zipper pants are a great example of what Gwen and Debra have done.

Gwen's trend-setter "baby doll tee" shows off her bare midriff. The bare midriff(belly) has become one of Gwen's contributions to the fashion world of teenage girls. Really, before No Doubt became nationally known were "baby doll" tees sold at concerts? Virtually every rock concert I have attended since No Doubt hit it big these shirts have been sold. Gwen does aerobics everyday to keep in shape. She explains, the reason she works outs "If I didn't work out I would be like a rock on stage and I couldn't do that." When she was younger she joined the swim team because she was afraid of being overweight.

Footwear:

Boots are a part of Gwen's wardrobe. She has worn two-tone Dr. Martins and combat boots. But she has also worn heels in "Sunday Morning". Gwen would look pretty weird wearing boots while working out so you can bet she likes to wear sneakers when she wants her feet to be comfortable.

Remember that the most important thing is to be yourself. Gwen has been trying to be herself and not being known for looking a particular way. If you want to be a true Gwennabe be sure to create your own style while using the above as suggestions :)
