Gwen and Gavin tie a double knot
Gavin talks to Pat O'Brien about the wedding and more As seen on Access Hollywood No Doubt's lead singer, Gwen Stefani and her British beau, Bush frontman, Gavin Rossdale are getting ready to tie the knot -- not once -- but twice. The couple is planning a Los Angeles ceremony for Gwen's family and friends and a London affair for Gavin's 'Brits.' Currently, Gavin can be heard on the XXX soundtrack, performing the single "Adrenalin," which he composed. Gavin stopped by Access Hollywood's Studio 5, where he talked to Pat O'Brien about his latest hit, the double wedding, and his burgeoning acting career.
Pat O'Brien: How exciting has this been for you to be a part of this huge blockbuster?
Gavin Rossdale: Yeah, it's unbelievable. The best part about it is that I didn't know -- it kind of cooperatively happened to me. I really didn't realize the massive scale of it until I started to get a little bit involved and mentioned it to a few people. I'm working on this song for this film, XXX and they said, 'Oh my god!' …coffee cups, flying trays all over the place. It's cool and it's just been a whirlwind, it's great.
Pat: What's it like to work the red carpet with Gwen? You guys were working it pretty hard at the premiere.
Gavin: Normally, we've been a bit 'too cool for school' so we don't really mix it up. You know, we kind of go with our respective bands and then meet up in the inside. So, that was the first time we had done it together. It was fun, it was really easy. I like that stuff. I think it's kind of funny -- just all that buzz.
Pat: How about the wedding? Excited?
Gavin: I am -- of course I am. We're having two weddings -- London and L.A. There are kind of a few things to organize and pull together. But it's definitely challenging. The main challenge to me is to just not get stressed about it. Everyone says that it's the most volatile time for couples because, you know, there is all this tension. So, we've just been making sure we keep away from that -- kind of remember what it is for.
Pat: How do you guys make out a guest list? Isn't that tough?
Gavin: Well, we haven't done it yet. It's tough, really tough, because you don't want to upset people and at the same time you want to keep it real intimate, so it's a bit of a headache. You want to be cool and do the right thing, but you realize that it's, in a way, the most intimate public day of your life.
Pat: So what is it about Gwen that you fell in love with? Was it the music first and then the person, or the person first and then the music?
Gavin: I think the person. I think that it's just her magic, her magic has transcended life and stuff. People are touched -- anyone who meets her has testament to that. She just has got something, so I lucked out.
Pat: I am not sure if luck is the right word, you probably earned something. Your acting career is starting to take off. Do you like the direction that you're going to go in now?
Gavin: Well, you know, I've always thought that Tom Waits was the king of the great records and the great parts. I'd always see myself, hopefully, to be able to do that in someway, so it's a goal that I still strive for. I'm not nearly as good as Tom Waits -- still on the road to it and trying to do the film stuff.
Pat: What's going to happen to Bush?
Gavin: Bush, well you know, the thing about Bush is that it's so synonymous and, obviously, with those other guys, interchangeable. I would not want to disband in any way. But I think that some of the things being mentioned to me in people's minds is because I've written the songs for Bush so it was a logical possibility. This film kind of kick-started that. I would have never imagined. I mean, without the film, I would have never done this solo track. Destiny is taking care of itself, of me right now.
Pat: Your fans are so loyal. Are you going to feel bad if you go out on your own? What would you say to them?
Gavin: There are always parts of me that feels bad, you know, I feel bad about certain things. Of course, I love them, I came here the other night to do The Tonight Show, and there were Bush fans and then fans with things that just had Gavin written on them. I love them and I love Bush fans -- and on our website I try to keep in contact with them so they are very special to me. I just hope they understand I do everything from a point of truth and honesty and just try to do the best I can for things. So we'll see how it will develop. It's an interesting time.
